The Boys (Amazon Prime Series)

Introduction of The Boys:
Eric Kripke created the American satirical superhero television series “The Boys” for Amazon Prime Video. The vigilante team in question fights against those who abuse their superpowers in this film adaptation of the same-named comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Among the cast members of “The Boys” are Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and Nathan Mitchell.
The comic book series adaptation, which was once planned to be a full-length movie, started developing in 2008 with Adam McKay as its director. The movie was left in development hell as a result of creative differences between the crew and the studios that acquired the picture. In 2016, Cinemax stated that The Boys would be adapted into a television series, reviving the development of the project. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were chosen to serve as the series’ executive producers, and Kripke was chosen to serve as its showrunner. Amazon Prime Video purchased the series’ rights in November 2017, and Toronto-based filming began in May 2018.

Storyline:
Season 1
The show centres on the titular The Boys, a band of vigilantes trying to overthrow Vought International and reveal their dishonest superheroes. Billy Butcher leads the gang. Hughie Campbell joins the Boys to exact revenge on the Seven when A-Train inadvertently kills his girlfriend. After joining the Seven, commanded by Homelander, Annie January is forced to confront the reality of individuals she admires. The Boys try to prevent Vought from gaining government funding for superheroes by learning the company's secrets. Even though Hughie and Annie are initially oblivious to each other’s loyalties, the dispute becomes complicated when they start dating.

Season 2
The war between the two factions is continued in the narrative by the titular The Boys, who are still fighting Vought with Starlight’s help even though they are wanted by the government. When Butcher finds out that Becca is still alive and being held hostage by Vought with a son born with superpowers thanks to Homelander, the war worsens. New superhero Stormfront, who has a mysterious past, joins the Seven and carefully spreads her message around the globe to persuade an unwary Homelander to help Supes rule the planet.

Season 3
After the events of the previous season, the tale follows the titular Boys, who have made peace with the Seven and are now employed by Victoria Neuman’s Bureau of Superhero Affairs to capture troublesome Supers. The struggle picks back up, though, as Butcher starts looking into the circumstances behind the supposed demise of Soldier Boy, one of Vought’s original American superheroes, to put an end to Homelander once and for all. In the meantime, Homelander’s mental health starts to deteriorate as Vought tries to limit his authority, and other Seven members like Starlight and Queen Maeve support the Boys in their schemes to have him killed.

Filming:
It was announced that The Boys would be filmed in Toronto, Canada, despite being set in New York City like in the comics. The series was set to start filming in 2018, intending to be released in 2019. This was announced in November 2017. It was announced that additional filming would also be done in the Golden Horseshoe region, including Mississauga and Hamilton, even though the series was mostly filmed in Toronto.
From May 22 to September 25, 2018, Toronto was the location for the first season’s principal photography. The Roy Thomson Hall was the location for the filming of the shots of the outside of the CGI-created Seven Tower. The Seven Towers was created by digitally extending and altering the structure of the original building.
The Roy Thomson Hall interior was used to create the interior of the tower, including some of the rooms and the contemporary lobby where the fictional firm hosts its corporate events. The Toronto location used for Times Square was Yonge-Dundas Square, which was then digitally altered. The race between A-Train and Shockwave was filmed at Hamilton, Ontario’s Tim Hortons Field stadium The subway shots were filmed at Lower Bay Station.

Additionally, the crew shot at several interesting locations throughout the city, including Sherbourne Common and the Cathedral Church of St. James. The Parkwood Estate in Oshawa, Ontario, which served as Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum’s residence, served as another shooting location.
The second season’s filming ran from June 17 through November 13, 2019. The Meridian Arts Centre in Toronto’s North York neighbourhood served as the location for the burial service for Translucent. For the scene where the Deep is arrested, the production used Wet ‘n’ Wild Toronto Waterpark, with minor CGI alterations to replicate the fictional Splash Zone Sandusky Park from the series.
Filming for the Chapel of the Collective sequences was conducted at the Hamilton, Ontario, Scottish Rite Club. The Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care complex, situated in the Ontario city of St. Thomas, served as the backdrop for the crew’s filming of the Sage Grove psychiatric hospital scenes. The Mel Lastman Square was originally chosen as the setting for a scene during the second season’s filming, but the Toronto City Council forced them to change their plans because it was so close to the scene of the April 23, 2018, van attack in Toronto.

The third season’s episodes were filmed between February 24 and September 10, 2021. The COVID-19 epidemic had little impact on the season’s filming, but many safety measures were taken to protect the actors and staff. The Metro Toronto Convention Center served as the Vought headquarters, Saint George Manor served as the host studio for the fictitious reality series American Hero, and the Medieval Faire area of Canada’s Wonderland served as the Vought Land theme park. These new locations were added for the season.
On August 23, 2022, the fourth season’s filming got underway. The last day of Pegg’s scenes’ filming was January 18, 2023. Beginning on February 12, Starr finished recording his scenes for the finale on April 4. The fourth season’s filming was finished on April 12, 2023.
