Miles Morales voices Spider-Man in the 2023 American computer-animated superhero film “Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse” produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The Spider-Verse, a shared multiverse of alternative realities first shown in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), serves as the setting. Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse’s IMDb rating is 8.8/10.
Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. are the movie directors. The relationship between Moore’s Miles and Steinfeld’s Gwen was supposed to be the main subject. After the sequel’s formal announcement in November 2019, animation development of Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse got underway in June 2020. The storyline of Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse :
Police captain George Stacy on Earth-65 has no idea that his daughter Gwen Stacy is Spider-Woman. Police have been looking for Gwen ever since she unintentionally killed Peter Parker, who was her best friend, while he was acting as the Lizard years ago. Gwen meets the Vulture one night in a parallel reality with an Italian Renaissance theme.
Miguel O’Hara and Jess Drew, two Spider-People, arrive with portal-creating watches and aid Gwen in taking down the Vulture. George confronts Gwen, who then discloses her identity to him. Upset, he attempts to take Gwen into custody. Gwen is permitted to flee with Miguel and Jess after Miguel reluctantly accepts her application for membership in the Spider Society. Miles Morales meets the Spot, an Alchemax scientist whose body was infused with portals following the collider explosion, in Brooklyn on Earth-1610 sixteen months after the Alchemax collider was destroyed.
The Spot accuses Miles of being responsible for his state and explains that when running tests on the collider, he transported an Earth-42 spider, which bit Miles and transformed him into Spider-Man. The Spot then unintentionally enters a void, where he ventures to other universes with Alchemax colliders to gain more power.

Gwen visits Earth-1610 and meets Miles again while covertly pursuing the Spot. They partner up with the local Spider-Man Pavitr Prabhakar and later Hobie Brown to battle the Spot, who has been absorbing the power of Earth-50101’s collider after Miles sneakily pursues her through the portal there. The Spot and Miles have a shared vision of the future attacks of the Spot, which features the deaths of both Jeff Miles and Police Inspector Singh (the father of Pavitr’s fiancée).
Singh is saved by Miles as the collider collapses, but before Spider-Society members can arrive to stop the damage, Earth-50101 starts to disintegrate due to its interrupted “canon event.” On Earth-928, where hundreds of Spider-People live in a huge facility, Miles, Gwen, and Hobie are dispatched to the Society’s headquarters. Miles, Gwen, and Hobie meet with Miguel and encounter Peter B. Parker and his infant daughter Mayday.
Miguel explains that each of the Spider-People’s stories has “canon events,” like the passing of a police captain who was close to Spider-Man; deviating from these events threatens reality and might bring about the collapse of that universe, as Miguel himself experienced when he tried to replace a deceased version of himself in another universe.
Miles understands that the murder of Jeff by the Spot, who was about to receive a promotion to police captain, is a canon event. Hobie helps Miles escape before leaving the Spider-Society after Miguel locks Miles up to stop him from freeing Jeff. Miguel issues a command to the Spider-Society to apprehend Miles as he runs through the building. Miguel seizes Miles and informs him that he is an anomaly; Miles was never meant to become Spider-Man, Earth-42 does not have a Spider-Man, and the anomaly is what killed Peter Parker from Earth-1610; he was the intended Spider-Man.

Miguel is defeated by Miles, who then departs to a dimension he thinks is his own. Furious Miguel expelled Gwen from the Society and forcibly sent her to Earth-65 because he saw her as a liability. Once there, Gwen finds George, who has resigned from his position as police captain, and they make up. George also gives Gwen a portal that Hobie left for her.
To his surprise, Miles discovers he is not in his dimension but rather on Earth-42. Because Spider-Man doesn’t exist, New York City is overrun with lawlessness, and Aaron Davis, Jeff’s deceased uncle, is living while Jeff is dead. Gwen visits Earth-1610 and chats with Miles’ parents, promising to find him and bring him home as the Spider-Society looks for Miles. As Aaron restrains Miles, it is made clear that Miles from Earth-42 has changed into the Prowler.
Gwen gathers a team to find Miles, including Peter B., Mayday, Pavitr, Hobie, Margo Kess, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham, while Miles gets ready to flee as the Spot launches his multiversal assault.
Animation:
Comic book artist Kris Anka later disclosed that he was working as a character designer on the movie after Lord stated that design work for new characters had begun around November 2019. Lead animator Nick Kondo declared that filming of Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse had begun on June 9, 2020. The different universes that were explored in Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse were designed to resemble sketches by various painters.
After finishing the first Spider-Verse film and beginning production on The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021), Lord and Miller set out to create six unique animation styles using these new animation techniques. It was important to dazzle the viewers each time a character entered a new location so that the story could be accurately shown on screen and a variety of moods could be created by the aesthetics. Gwen Stacy’s residence, Earth-65, was styled to resemble “impressionistic” watercolour paintings.
The animation team of Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse developed a simulator to recreate this look and employed a colour scheme that acts as a “three-dimensional mood ring” to represent Gwen’s feelings. According to co-director Justin K. Thompson, the scene in 1950s Cinderella where her garment is torn and the world responds to the tragedy is inspired by how her emotions are reflected through colours. Miller also aimed for this aesthetic to bring to mind the Spider-Gwen comic book covers for the viewers.

Earth-50101 was one of the two parallel Earths visible in the teaser; the crew dubbed it “Mumbattan” after Mumbai and Manhattan as a result of its similarity to the world from the Spider-Man: India comic book series published by Gotham Entertainment Group. The design team studied the 2000-year-old Indian martial art of Kalaripayattu from the state of Kerala to give the figure Pavitr Prabhakar a distinctive movement and fighting technique. The other universe was Nueva York, an unfinished-looking futuristic version of New York City from the Marvel 2099 universe. Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse was based on Syd Mead’s neo-futurist paintings.
Joaquim Dos Santos, the co-director of Empire, revealed during cast and crew interviews in March 2023 that another universe would be “the punky New London, inhabited by Daniel Kaluuya’s Spider-Punk,” with a final dimension “being kept tightly under wraps for now”—later revealed to be Earth-42, the world the spider that bit Miles came from and where he has become that world’s version of the Prowler.
It took two to three years to develop Spider-Punk’s animation style, which is influenced by collage images of 1970s punk-rock album covers, posters, and zines. These images mimic the appearance of Xerox prints, coloured papers, and images taken from magazines and newsprint, and have a general greyed-out appearance because copy machines lack toner. Additionally, to capture the DIY punk aesthetic and Spider-Punk’s anarchic demeanour and propensity for irregularity, the animators experimented with various frame rates.
Contrary to the rest of the figures, who are mostly animated on 2s, his body is animated on 3s or 2s (8 or 12 images), his guitar on 4s (6 images), and his outline on 2s or 1s (12 or 24 images). In an interview with Jake Johnson in May 2023, Johnson stated that the movie would have a Lego universe. Preston Mutanga, a 14-year-old Canadian animator, created the Lego segment, which was inserted toward the end of the film after the producers were impressed by his Lego replica of the first teaser.

For the sequel, Miles’ design was changed to reflect that he had experienced a growth spurt, and Gwen’s hairstyle and outfit were altered. Spider-Man 2099 co-creator Rick Leonardi was hired to adapt his concepts for the movie, and comic book artist Brian Stelfreeze was chosen to direct the visual evolution of Jess Drew.
At the beginning of the movie, The Spot has a style that resembles an “unfinished sketch [with] blue construction lines that evoke a comic book artist’s rough drawing before the work goes to an inker,” but as he acquires more mastery over his skills, his appearance changes. The animation team faced unexpected difficulties because the portals in The Spot were designed to resemble “living ink that had spilt or splattered on the comic artist’s drawing.” The Renaissance-era design of the Vulture was influenced by the illustrations in Leonardo da Vinci’s sketchbooks.

Box Office:
Alongside The Boogeyman, Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse was released in the United States and Canada. Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse was previously anticipated to earn roughly $80 million from 4,313 cinemas in its first weekend, with rival studios speculating it may top $90 million.
The Lion King ($23 million in 2019) and Incredibles 2 ($18.5 million in 2018) both had better opening weekends for animated movies than its $17.35 million from Thursday night previews. After earning $51.7 million on Friday (including previews, the greatest first day of 2023 up to that moment), weekend projections rose to $113 million.

In the end, Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse made $120.7 million at the box office, which was the eighth-best ever for an animated movie and the second-highest opening weekend total of 2023 (after The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $146.4 million). Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse also broke the record for a Sony Pictures Animation film’s opening weekend by surpassing Hotel Transylvania 2 ($48.4 million in 2015). Following the brand-new Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the movie earned $55.5 million in its second weekend, placing it in second place.
The third weekend saw it earn $27.8 million, placing it third. With competition from The Flash, a holdover, No Hard Feelings, and Elemental, a new release, Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse would earn $19.3 million on its fourth weekend, dominating the box office once more.
Release Date of Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse:
On May 30, 2023, the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles and the Grand Rex in Paris, France, respectively, hosted the global premieres of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. It was then theatrically released in the United States on June 2 in big formats and IMAX. This movie wasn’t distributed in 3D like the first one was. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed from its initial April 8, 2022, release date to October 7, 2022. A new date of June 2023 was chosen after that.
On May 31, Beijing hosted the Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse’s debut; on June 2, it was made available to the public. Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse’s initial premiere date in the MENA region was June 22, 2023; however, because of the movie’s transgender symbolism, it was eventually pulled from theatres there.

On June 9, 2023, Sony issued a revised cut of the movie with improved audio mixing to theatres in response to concerns about sound mixing issues from viewers in some theatres. Variety was informed by an official source that all film prints had been changed and re-sent to theatres, even though “a handful of theatres” had the issues.
There are reportedly two unique versions of the movie in theatres, each with a few minor variations in the dialogue and animations. One scene between Lyla and Miguel might end with Lyla giving Miguel a fist bump, whereas in another, Lyla might take a photo of the two of them. Andy Leviton, the associate editor of the movie, confirmed the rumours on Twitter.
