Introduction of Carry On Jatta:

Gippy Grewal and Mahie Gill star in the 2012 Indian Punjabi comedy Carry On Jatta, which was directed by Smeep Kang. The movie premiered on July 27, 2012. This film was remade in the following languages: Odia (Pilata Bigidigala) in 2015; Telugu (Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam) in 2016; Bangladesh (Dhat Teri Ki) in 2017; and Bengali (India) in 2019 (Jamai Badal). The film Chakkikotha Chankaran from Malayalam in 1989 served as a loose inspiration for the main plot. Its IMDb rating is 8.7/10.

Storyline:

At a friend’s wedding, Mahie (Mahie Gill) and Jass (Gippy Grewal) fall in love, and Jass (Gippy Grewal) tells her friends that she is getting married to someone single like herself. After getting married, Mahi does not want to deal with her in-laws’ nagging and interference. Jass therefore pretends to be an orphan to win her over with the aid of his friend Honey (Gurpreet Ghuggi).

 She develops feelings for him, but when Taji (Karamjit Anmol), her brother, learns about it, he pressures them to get married soon. Thus, without telling his father Advocate Dhillon (Jaswinder Bhalla), brother Goldy Dhillon (Binnu Dhillon), or his wife Diljit Dhillon (Anshu Sawhney), Jass marries Mahie. After they get married, Jass asks Mahie to find them a place to reside, and when she does, the comedy of errors starts when she finds a sublease room in Jass’s own house.

Jass devises several schemes with his best friend Honey (Gurpreet Ghuggi) to mislead Jass’s family so that Jass can live with his wife Mahie in his own house without his family ever knowing. However, amid everything, Honey secretly weds his fiancée Preet (Khushboo Grewal) because his father Inspector Sikander Tiwana (B.N. Sharma) won’t permit it. However, Honey deceives Preet’s parents as well as Preet himself into thinking that he is the son of Advocate Dhillon. This results in a major disaster. In the end, everything works itself out, and Mahi accepts Jass for who he is.

Awards:

At the 2013 Third PTC Punjabi Film Awards, Carry On Jatta took home eight prizes.

Sequel:

Released on June 1, 2018, Carry on Jatta 2 is a follow-up starring Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa in the lead roles, with Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla, B.N. Sharma, Karamjit Anmol, Upasana Singh, and Jyotii Sethi in supporting roles.

“Carry On Jatta 3,” the third instalment in the franchise, is scheduled for release on June 29, 2023. In addition to returning supporting cast members from earlier movies, the film stars Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa in key parts.

Production:

 Gippy Grewal formed his own production company, Gurfateh Films, together with his brothers Sippy Grewal, who established Sippy Grewal Productions, Sukha Production, and Pushpinder Happy. The entire movie was filmed in Jalandhar, Punjab.

Box Office:

With Rs. 61 lakh in net revenue on opening day, Carry On Jatta had the second-largest opening for a Punjabi movie in Punjab, surpassing Gippy Grewal’s previous film Mirza, which at the time had the highest opening. It subsequently went on to earn Rs 2.05 crore over the weekend, Rs 3.75 crore in its first week, and is now on track to earn a total of Rs 10 crore in India, making it the second-highest grossing Punjabi movie in the country.
