The plot of The Flash focuses on Barry Allen’s adventure as he unintentionally has unforeseen effects while going back in time to stop his mother’s death. The storyline of The Flash:
Barry Allen visits his boyhood home and reminisces about his time with his parents, Nora and Henry before Henry was wrongfully imprisoned for Nora’s murder after assisting Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince in stopping a heist in Gotham City. Barry mistakenly uses the Speed Force to go back in time earlier in the day while overcome with emotion; he tells Bruce about it.
Barry returns to the day of Nora’s death and stops it despite Bruce’s cautions about the unexpected repercussions of time travel. Barry is knocked out of the Speed Force by another speedster and ends up in an alternate 2013 where Nora is still alive as he returns to the present. When he locates his former self, he understands that day was the day he first acquired his powers.
The two Barrys travel to the Central City Police Department, where Barry pushes 2013-Barry to set himself up to be hit by lightning to get his powers. Barry and the 2013 Barry both end up being struck by lightning, which grants the 2013 Barry powers but drains Barry of his own. They witness General Zod’s broadcast as he prepares to invade Earth as Barry strives to teach 2013-Barry how to use his powers appropriately. Despite their best efforts, the Barrys are unable to put together the Justice League since Victor Stone has not yet developed his skills, Arthur Curry was never born, and they are unable to find Diana.
Instead of finding Bruce when they arrive at Wayne Manor in search of him, they discover an older, retired alternative. According to Bruce’s explanation of the multiverse, changing history through time travel has an impact on both earlier and later occurrences. Bruce is persuaded to assist in their search for Kal-El.
The Barry family and Bruce use the Batcomputer to find a Kryptonian pod that has allegedly been found in Siberia. They instead discover Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Kal-El, imprisoned in a building when they arrive. After saving Kara, Barry urges Bruce to recreate the initial accident so that he can regain his powers. The first two tries are unsuccessful, so Kara decides to fly Barry into the storm, where he is successful in regaining his abilities.
Together with the two Barrys, Kara and Bruce take on Zod’s army. Kara discovers during the fight with Zod that Zod had attempted to steal the Codex necessary to repopulate the Kryptonian species, but had instead intercepted a baby Kal-El’s escape pod and killed him. When Zod finally kills Kara, he takes the Codex from her blood after revealing that the Codex is actually inside of her. Bruce attempts to halt Zod’s invasion by giving himself up in vain.
The two Barrys attempt to save them in the past several times, but each attempt ends in failure. Even though Barry knows it’s pointless, he still tries to stop their deaths in 2013. The multiverse begins to collapse as 2013-Barry moves through it.
In the end, the mysterious speedster who first forced Barry out of the Speed Force turns out to be the Dark Flash, an older, future version of 2013-Barry who still has faith in his ability to stop Zod’s invasion and the deaths of Bruce and Kara, thus solving the causal loop paradox that gave rise to his creation. Barry’s plan to turn back time and let Nora die infuriates The Dark Flash. The Dark Flash tries to kill Barry, but instead impales 2013-Barry, who gives his life to save Barry and stop the development of Dark Flash.
In the aftermath, Barry changes the timeline and accepts Nora’s death, but he also changes history to produce fresh proof that will allow Henry to be cleared. Bruce, whose appearance has once more changed as a result of his activities, contacts Barry after arriving in the present.
